Overview

The Group Product Manager is responsible for working with technology teams to define “what it is we will be building” & with Coaches, Clients, and cross-functional partners to define “why”. They’ll work closely with the Technology team to implement user stories that they have crafted through a user-centered approach. They will evaluate technical, functional, performance and user-value tradeoffs to provide the best possible products for our coaches & clients. Working with partners across the business they will further develop current digital products by identifying improvements, directing market research, generating product requirements, and developing communication strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Works with the VP, Digital Product to develop product roadmap for their portfolio of products.
  • Lead the planning of product release plans and set expectations for delivery of new functionality with business, coach & client experience, and technology teams
  • Integrates coach & client insights (through multiple methods of contact) into product conception and improvement.
  • Plan and prioritize product feature backlog and development for the product. Work with Agile Project Managers to remove blockers and ensure highest value work is the focus of technology, qa, and deployment teams.
  • Evaluates technical, functional, performance and user-value tradeoffs - making decisions related to scope and communicating rationale to their cross-functional partners, as well as coaches.
  • Works with other Digital Product Managers to ensure consistency and replicability of features and product strategy.
  • Crafts user stories suitable for implementation based on inputs from users (coach/client), business, and technology team
  • Works closely with the technology team (co-located) on a day to day basis.
  • Provide an active role in mitigating impediments impacting successful team completion of Release/Sprint Goals
  • Translate product strategy into detailed requirements and prototypes
  • Create buy-in for the product vision both internally and with key external partners
  • Act as a product evangelist to build awareness and understanding
  • Own the creative process of generating, developing, and curating new ideas. They determine which ideas should be promoted into features to push the product strategy forward

Qualifications

Experience/Skills

  • 5 years of experience in product management.
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner
  • Proven experience establishing strong working relationships with a wide range of team members and clients.
  • Excellent communicator with experience presenting technical topics in a business-oriented fashion to non-technical audiences.
  • Proven record of defining and delivering end-to-end, user-centered products that consider user research, market analysis, data, customer feedback, and technical constraints and opportunities.
  • Experience designing customer-centered products that produce measurable results against a documented problem statement.
  • Experience with Human Centred Design method, mindsets and tools an asset

 Competencies

  • Customer-centric: Deep understanding of coach/client desires and needs (both emerging and nascent) through direct conversation as well as working with organizational partners (e.g. marketing analytics, user research, product analytics)
  • Translator: Able to adapt business requirements to technical (implementation) requirements - and importantly, vice versa: able to understand (through critical thinking/analysis) and communicate technical decisions into business impact
  • Decisive: Can prioritize features and resource allocation based on a mix of technical viability, coach/client desirability, and overall feasibility
  • EQ: Expert at relationship management. Able to form trusted partnerships across the field, the business, and the technology team.
  • Solid technical background with understanding and/or hands-on experience in software development and web technologies
  • Strong problem solving skills and willingness to roll up one’s sleeves to get the job done
  • Skilled at working effectively with cross functional teams in a matrix organization
