    The Project Engineer is the technical resource on key projects related to Growth, Cost Savings, and Quality Improvement. The position is responsible for designing and implementing manufacturing processes, equipment, and procedures to achieve the production goals of the organization. He/she will work closely with operations, maintenance, product development, inventory control, purchasing, quality and distribution to manage projects.

    Responsibilities

    • Identifies and develops processes and equipment needed to produce and distribute products.
    • Performs equipment design evaluations.
    • Analyzes returns on investment (ROI) and pay back for new equipment.
    • Develops and implements new packaging designs, including new substrate materials and package structures.
    • Works to complete projects within budget and scheduling restraints.
    • Responsible for the implementation, and analysis of new products, processes, equipment, and systems.
    • May assist in the development and improvement of products.
    • Plans and oversees layout of equipment, office, and production facilities.
    • Conducts studies in operations to maximize work flow and spatial utilization.
    • Maximizes efficiency and ensures workplace safety by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, methods, and work force utilization.
    • Reviews existing processes and develops solutions to increase productivity and/or reduce costs; drives continuous improvement projects
    • Ensures compliance with approved production methods and quality standards.
    • Develops and documents operating procedures.
    • Leads formal root cause analyses with technical and production teams to identify and eliminate process quality concerns.
    • Utilizes statistical data analysis for data driven decision making.
    • Communicates effectively with current vendors and develops relationships with new and potential vendors to ensure a broad and current understanding of packaging technology and products.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
    • A minimum of 4 years of experience as an Engineer in a manufacturing environment; experience in the food/pharmaceutical industry is strongly preferred.
    • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the packaging field.
    • Experience with flexible packaging filling and sealing machines a plus
    • Experience with powdered product handling and conveying a plus
    • Experience with PLC’s and automated manufacturing equipment a plus
    • Excellent oral and written communications skills, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
