  • Overview


    The Marketing & Communications Specialist assists in sharing the voice of OPTAVIA, copywriting both internal and external communication and design projects amongst cross-functional teams, for our OPTAVIA Coaches and Clients. This position is responsible for collateral production, communications, and promotion of all OPTAVIA events and programs. Additionally, the Marketing & Communications Specialist executes detailed communications and marketing plans and project tracking for OPTAVIA, as directed.


    This position requires solid writing skills, great creativity, precise attention to detail, and extreme detail to processes. The Marketing & Communications Specialist will assist with the workflow of projects, moving multiple pieces seamlessly to completion with the ability to effectively partner with all levels of our employee base.


    In addition, the Marketing & Communications Specialist will be responsible for proofreading deliverables, research, and will be working in an environment with a multitude of critical, overlapping projects with tight deadlines and budgets. This candidate will be responsible for communicating professionally and successfully with a wide range of people, both internally and externally, at all levels.



    • Effectively manages the coordination and execution of communication plans and collateral (20%). 
    • Creates and develops copy to be used across OPTAVIA media, communications, tools and marketing materials, demonstrating a deep understanding of both the unique nature of the OPTAVIA business and the special groups receiving communications – Field Leadership, OPTAVIA Coaches, Health Professionals, Clients, and the corporate team. All copy should ultimately reflect the distinct OPTAVIA culture and convey this culture in tone, language and overall message. (15%)
    • Develops and maintains strong working relationships and cross-trains effectively with Events, Recognition, and Incentive team, Marketing team, Training team, Client Solutions Center, Enterprise Communication Team, Web team, field, and any external vendors (10%).
    • Offers administrative support (10%)
    • Understands, follows, and supports internal/external processes and procedures in areas such as communications, procurement, and creative development. (10%). 
    • Prepares creative and written materials, including some marketing and/or promotional copy and design, business communications, recognition reports, website content, images, and Power Point presentations, and distributes appropriately via email, posting to websites and systems, etc (10%). 
    • Assists in developing promotional, creative, and communication strategies around Events, Marketing initiatives, Training programs, Recognition and Incentives (10%). 
    • Assist with day-to-day editing and proofreading of content for all OPTAVIA communications and marketing materials (5%) 
    • Schedules, tracks and updates weekly team meetings, project plan and matrices with all appropriate departments calendar (5%). 
    • Participates in local meetings and/or travel to all events, as required (1%). 


    • Bachelor’s degree in English, Creative Writing, Business, Communications or Marketing preferred OR related work experience. 
    • 3+ years’ experience in Marketing, Design, Communications, or Events-related field. 
    • Knowledge of traditional marketing disciplines and communication styles, plus new trends such as social media, digital, and event marketing.
    • Computer skills/programs in InDesign, Adobe, Microsoft Office,Keynote, survey software.
    • Attention to detail and ability to proactively provide solutions. 
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong knowledge of English language/grammar, AP and Chicago style
    • Demonstrated writing ability in various genres – promotional, informational, technical and motivational 
    • Able to process large quantities of information and translate to appropriate audiences
    • Excellent reading comprehension and editorial skills
    • Must be able to interact with all levels, both internally and externally, proving excellent customer service and the ability to establish partnerships. 
    • Must be process-driven. 
    • Knowledge of Direct Sales industry a plus.
